Sethburg Music
Life is not just research reports,
novels and poetry.
I have been writing songs for forty years so, for your listening
pleasure (one hopes), a sample of my work is included here. All of these
songs are written (and copyrighted) – both words and music – by me.
Sometimes I forget that not everyone lives in Texas
Nothing Left to Lose
This is a song that explores the influence of Antonio Carlos Jobim has
on my writing. I had nothing to do with the actual recording – which was
done by friends in Pittsburgh.
Richard Gibson is responsible for the arrangement and the guitar part.
The singer is the terrific Erin Rhodes.
My
Daddy Was a Fireman
Like most Americans, I was struck with the images of children standing
around downtown New York with pictures of parents who had disappeared in
the collapse of the Towers on 9/11. In the ensuing weeks I had a number
of conversations with a firefighter friend, Greg (to whom the song is
dedicated) who told me that he and many of his fellow firefighters are
single parents. In their families, every time there is a fire, their
children feel a tremendous level of anxiety – watching the news and
waiting alone to see if their parents will return home. This song is the
result of those conversations.
The arrangement consists of me on guitar & vocal and features Richard on
pedal steel.
Plants
In The Window
This is a recently written Texas swing piece arranged by Richard and
recorded by Richard and Erin. It is about the difficulties implicit in
long distance relationships.
Table
By A Fire
This is a bluegrass song about friendship performed by Ace Pounder & the
Cowboy Bill Orchestra (with me as AP and Paul Warren as the CBO). The
arrangement was greatly enhanced by the contributions of our friends,
The Sierra Studebakers.
Like A
Ruby
This has always been one of my most requested songs. It was performed by
Ace Pounder & the Cowboy Bill Orchestra – featuring Fred Guthrie on Sax.
The session that produced this song was conducted by my friend Chris
Fox. Wendy
This is a pop
song about the uncertainties of love. The arrangement and the
performance (including the amazing vocals) are by Paul Warren (CBO). |
